Today’s Conferences

I had parent teacher conferences for both Sanura and Adrian this morning. It went really exactly as I had expected.

Sanura is a very smart girl so I didn’t anticipate that she would have any problems academically. She did well in all subjects. They had a difficult social studies unit, most of the kids in the class got a 69% score and Sanura got a 93% so I’m proud of her for that. She’s a good reader and good at math, she needs to practice subtraction some more but it’s not a concern really, just a weakness.

Socially Sanura has always had problems. Her Kindergarten and first grade years were particularly difficult for her. Last year she did really well which I attribute to her awesome teacher. So far this year she hadn’t had any problems until a couple weeks ago. She gets very easily offended. One example is a teacher said “oh my gosh” and Sanura said that was a bad word and always gives the teacher the evil eye when she’s around. Yes, my daughter is a goody two shoes and that’s ok with me! However, I want her respecting adults and “oh my gosh” is not considered cursing in our house “oh my god” is cursing though so maybe she thought the teacher had said that. Another example is if a kid is looking at her she gets offended, I guess she thinks they are making fun or judging her. So we have to work on some things, she really doesn’t have any friends either. Mostly all of Sanura’s problems, from what I can tell, come from a lack of self confidence. I’m not sure why she isn’t confident. She’s gorgeous, smart, and sweet and we tell her that so it’s a hard thing to figure out.

Overall her conference was everything that I expected it would be. We are very proud of her.

Adrian is doing really well too. He had a bit of a rough go last week because his teacher was gone for a few days. He acted out a lot while she was gone. A lot of running away from the teachers and scratching people. Hopefully since she’s back now he’ll go back to improving like he was before. Adrians IEP goals are going really well, two of them he’s done consistently for the last couple of months. I need to read through all the reports from the autism support team and read more on his IEP’s still so I’m sure I’ll have more to share after some reading. I had a terrible headache today so I didn’t get to it yet.

The teachers are really excited with Adrian’s progress and so are we!
