3 Comments Lincoln’s Hearing Test
I took Lincoln in today for a hearing test and thought I would share our experience and our results. Lincoln is only 2 years old so he’s not very cooperative, especially when they tried to insert testers into his ears.
We did have one successful test. They took us into a sound proof room and it was just he and I, through a two way mirror there was an audiologist. There are speakers and screens to the right and to the left. They make different volumes and frequency sounds come out of the speakers and when he looks at the correct speaker he receives a visual reward, which in our case it was Disney characters that would light up and make sounds in the screens.
Lincoln’s results were a little bit below normal for 2 out of the 3 tests that she tried. She also made a loud static sound in each speaker to try to startle him and he did not startle as much as she would have liked to see. We need to repeat the test in June because with him being two years old and this being a new experience to him his results could have been a little below normal because he wasn’t totally cooperative and he did begin to get a little bit distracted. So the plan is to try this again and see how the results look in June.
I would love it if his speech issues were due to a little hearing loss then due to an autism spectrum disorder. That’s really all I can say for now until we find out more in June I guess!
